Although form wise, the specimen at left exhibits a bead neck finish while the specimen at right exhibits what is termed an oil neck finish, both bottles were produced in a two piece vertical body mold with separate base part. This is the most common method of producing bottles between ca. 1850 and the mid-1920s (Jones and Sullivan 1985: 28). Bottles produced in such molds are usually symmetrical, and exhibit mold seams that extend from the base on both sides of the bottle up to the neck finish. |
