This sherd, derived from a cup or bowl form, displays a portion of a patriotic-themed, blue transfer printed eagle and shield motif surrounded by a field of red sponging.  Marked vessels that display this motif are usually dateable to the mid-19th century (ca. 1840s - 1860s; e.g. Robacker and Robacker 1978: 110-111).
